This Qur’anic Manuscript, showing verse 42 from Surah Ali ‘Imran (The Family of Imran), draws heavily from the Mamluk style of Quranic manuscript illumination and incorporates the floral, Kufic calligraphy of the Fatimids. The verse praises the Virgin Mary and affirms her importance in the Islamic faith:
“…O Mary! Surely Allah has selected you, purified you, and chosen you over all women of the world” (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:42)
